WASHINGTON (AP) — House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has described his role in the investigation that led to the resignation of CIA chief David Petraeus, saying someone gave him information about the case that sounded like a potential "national security vulnerability."

Cantor, a Virginia Republican, told reporters Wednesday that he did not know the person and did not know if the information was credible. He says that's when he decided to take the matter to the FBI and its director, Robert Mueller.

In late October, Cantor was contacted by an FBI employee who gave him information about the affair between Petraeus and his biographer, Paula Broadwell.

Cantor says he asked the FBI to keep officials in Congress informed once it was determined whether an investigation was necessary.
