The Israel Museum has received a gift of 200 photographs by renowned French documentary photographer Eugene Atget.

Atget chronicled French life, culture and history in and around Paris in 10,000 pictures taken between the late 19th century and 1927.

Museum director James Snyder says the photos given to the museum by George and Pamela Rohr of New York and an anonymous donor will go on display on Friday.

He said Tuesday this will be the first showing of Atget's work in Israel.

Seventy of the works will be shown at Ticho House, a historic home in Jerusalem belonging to the museum that was built in the late 1800s.
