Obama official: Europe to have more forceful plan

LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — A senior Obama administration official says the plans European leaders are pursuing to stabilize their finances now and in the long run will be a "more forceful response" than they have contemplated to date.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity at the Group of 20 summit in Mexico to characterize private talks without trumping the formal comments of leaders.

European leaders will unveil the more detailed response to the continent's financial crisis in Brussels during at summit at the end of June.

The Obama official said the European strategy will be based around building more viable financial institutions over time but also time-buying measures in the short term.

The official said Europeans made clear they know they have to do more.
