Today's News Briefs and Commentaries

Editors' note: ?Townhall.com has learned that a specific speech topic request -- the fairness doctrine -- was not communicated directly to Joe Scarborough prior to his presentation. He gave his speech as he had prepared.

Ok, this is strange.

MSNBC's resident Republican Joe Scarborough was booked for CPAC to talk about the Fairness Doctrine. That's what it has said on the agenda for several days. And, as I blogged below there was even important action on it today in the Senate.

So, after a wonderful introduction by MRC's Seton Motley where he explained what happened this morning on the Hill, Scarborough totally dropped the ball.

He basically came out and said "I didn't know I was here to talk about the Fairness Doctrine, so let me say I'm against it....Now, I'm going to talk about what I was going to talk about."

Then, Scarborough proceeded to start talking about how great it was when he came to Congress in 1994. A basic, red meat speech on "the power of positive thinking in politics" and how even his dear old dad wouldn't vote for him.

But why is Scarborough ducking Fairness Doctrine talk? Did MSNBC put the tether on him? Does his new radio show with Mika have anything to do with it? Do they hope the single-host, conservative shows go down so Joe and Mika's ratings go up? I'm just speculating here, but why not. I wanted to hear him talk about conservative media.

Regardless, it's really poor tact to duck the topic you were billed to talk about to just, well, talk about yourself.

I hope he was misinformed.

where conspiracy theories grow
I'm sure that Joe has been 'muzzled' because of some nefarious plot between the Obama administration and MSNBC. Stay tuned....if you dare.

There's also the fact that Joe talks about himself better than anything else he does, so it makes sense that he made it all about him. He's a man of little - very little - substance.

Amanda - the Mika insight is prob keen..
Though not from the perspective you imagine. Having stomached an hour or two with Mika and Joe I can tell you the show has limited range to begin with.

Its more likely that he doesn't like being paired with Mika, but is sucking it up - in case the FD DOES pass and he has a leg to stand on...

Mika and Joe
These two are a waste of TV and radio time. The same biased guests day after day. Joe talks about how great he was and Mika makes that stupid face anytime someone dares to agree with the Republicans.

So is Obama so what is your point?

This is Joe Scarborough
I didn't "duck" the Fairness Doctrine. I was asked to speak on the conservative movement. I did not find out I was to speak on the Fairness Doctrine until I showed up at the event. No conspiracy here, but I am more interested in helping the conservative movement move forward than limiting my talk to one topic.

I am surprised that with all I said, you had no more to write up than a conspiracy-laced tag. So let me tell Townhall readers my punchline: The Republican Party had better start acting conservative or they will die. They need conservatives more than conservatives need them.

"This is Joe Scarborough"

Jeez, the guy who keeps coming up with some stupid little comment and then publishing it on EVERY SINGLE ACTIVE THREAD in TH is actually Joe Scarborough?

TH really needs an authentication mechanism. (It happens I've written a good one in PHP, using RSA keys.)
